the Illuminated Scroll

With Lisa Agaran
Dating back as far as ancient Egypt, scrolls were forms of long documents used prior to the codex and bound book. They were commonly used for record keeping, religious manuscripts and paintings. A scroll was often rolled up and stored away or displayed hung on the wall.Inspired by ancient Tibetan tablets that were used to hold Buddhists chants and scriptures. This form of scroll were made of individual manuscripts often tied together or stacked.

Lisa will walk you through a scroll project that will resemble the structure and character of these tablets. This scroll will be constructed from a group of panels, individual decorated with gesso, paint, fabric scraps, collage and asemic writing. They will then be fastened together so your scroll will be foldable to close and then easily open and hung to display on the wall. You will also have the option to incorporate some of your favorite inspirational quotes or covert your scroll into a gratitude scroll by infusing the panels with the things you are grateful for.
